Andrew White

“Entwined”

Made for Comics Workbook

Day 5 is I guess the day Andrew and I spam everyone with smaller posts!  Going to reblog some comicsworkbook comics today, and probably will continue on with them tomorrow.  I am going to start with some silent pages to get at his juxtapositional choices first, and move on to text slowly.

On this page we see a narrative built out of visual rhyming.  The grid becomes the building, the building mixes with the clouds and becomes the wall, and so on until it simply becomes abstract scratches.  I enjoy that these pages always have an intellectual element, a transparent act of experimentation.  And that these experiments commonly break down at the end.  Narrative satisfaction, for White, seems to come from dissolving the plots, ideas, and characters.  From contextualizing ambiguity.
