Writing lists is fun, and I decided on a whim to write up some convention panels that I would organize if I had the power to do that sort of thing. I allowed myself access to any creator who might conceivably attend an American comic convention (so Steve Ditko is off limits, for instance), and limited myself to people who speak English fluently just to keep it reasonable. I started off trying not to use anyone more than once, but that fell to the wayside fairly quickly. So here is a list of panels that I think would be neat and work well together:
Sammy Harkham, Noah Van Sciver, Dan Clowes and Chester Brown on the rise and fall of the alternative comic book (moderated by Frank Santoro)
Sheldon Vella, James Stokoe, Mickey Zacchilli and Michael Deforge in conversation (moderated by Brandon Graham)
Dash Shaw, Paul Pope, Chris Butcher and Frederik Schodt on the influence of manga on American comics (moderated by Jason Thompson)
Kate Beaton, Brandon Graham and Chris Ware on humor in comics (moderated by Robin McConnell)
Alvin Buenaventura, Dylan Williams, Chris Pitzer and Dan Nadel on comics publishing and personal vision (moderated by Tom Spurgeon)
Joe Matt, Chester Brown and Chris Ware on Frank King and Harold Gray (moderated by Jeet Heer)
Gilbert Hernandez and Jordan Crane on Jaime Hernandez (moderated by Todd Hignite)
Jaime Hernandez and Frank Santoro on Gilbert Hernandez (moderated by Gary Groth)
Dan Nadel lecture on Jesse Marsh
Kim Thompson lecture on Andre Franquin
Art Spiegelman lecture on George Herrimann
Evan Dorkin lecture on Roy Crane
Paul Pope lecture on Hugo Pratt and Guido Crepax
Dylan Horrocks lecture on Barry Linton and comics in New Zealand
