He’s a better artist than he is a writer, and that just appeals less to my tastes than it once did even though his brushwork is just as slick and appealing as always. THB (or what that I’ve read of it) is still great for what it is, and Heavy Liquid/100% have their moments. I find his work far less appealing in color and therefore have a hard time understanding why he is so willing to recolor old stuff (the recent Image collection, and similar plans for both THB and Escapo). I read maybe 20 pages of Battling Boy in the store before deciding that the story most definitely was not for me and that I could enjoy his art just as easily in other works that weren’t printed tiny. Maybe it would have won me over if I stuck with it.
