Here are a few process shots from my new comic, M, which you can read here.
1) I wrote the narration first, with characters on facing spreads just like in the final comic. I wrote one character in French and the other in Arabic before translating back into English. That probably seems awful pretentious, but the goal was to make my prose more direct and unadorned, since I speak both of those languages less well than English. I hoped that using two different languages would also help me to develop a separate voice and tone for each character.
2) The initial draft of an early page from the comic, which had to be redrawn because I hadn’t entirely nailed the visual approach yet.
3) Resequencing the comic after putting it aside for several months – each page was originally just one color. I also added several new panels and removed others at this stage. The Post-Its are notes for panels to be added/redrawn or narration to be rewritten.
