Coloring and Revising Diary, Part 2

I’m getting there. I have a draft done, approx 130 colored and lettered pages, and I’m trying to settle my mind as I write this. A quiet mind, as I said before. I don’t need to maintain this state for long, as little as 30 minutes or certainly an hour can be enough to get some good work done. But getting there takes some work. I surely overengineer it a bit, wait for exactly the right set of circumstances…

I need to sit down, read through the draft again, and make notes on what I should change in the next few weeks. I suspect there are still some important structural flaws here, I suspect I won’t be able to fully identify or resolve them on this read but I’d like to try.

Topics on my mind for this project:

  • Translation
  • Nested stories
  • Retelling stories
  • Recursion, infinity, doubling
  • The question of what purpose color serves in a comic (see Josef Albers, Dash Shaw especially around the time of New School)
  • Seth’s stamp diaries, Kevin H’s comments on same
